Private Garden in Blackrock

This project was located in Cork city.  The house was an old existing dwelling which was being renovated to create a modern family home.

The garden designer for the project wanted to create a modern garden which complemented the character of the existing façade of the house and the area.
The layout for the rear garden was very formal and consisted of a lawn space framed by paving and specimen plants.
The front garden was a courtyard style space which could accommodate cars.  The planting was located in raised planters.

A modern, formal garden such as this requires great attention to detail.

We worked closely with the client’s garden designer through each step of the project.
The lawn had to be perfect.  The base for the instant lawn or turf rolls had to be finely graded to ensure a level lawn with adequate drainage.
A number of the larger plants were ordered in from Italy and were stored at our nursery until the planting phase began.

Large plants like this can pose difficulties when access is limited.  We used a combination of trolleys and man power to get each specimen into it’s location.

The hard landscaping elements of the garden had to be protected while planting works were carried out.  The smallest amount of damage to the paving would have been glaringly obvious in this formal garden.
