Private Garden near Waterfall

This project was located in a rural location outside of Cork City.  The house had been constructed a number of years ago and a shelter belt of evergreen trees had been planted around the property.

The site was elevated and exposed to the elements.

The job was a design and build project carried out with Terry O’Regan & Associates (formerly BHL Landscape Design).

We had to incorporate the existing pond and the mounds, which provided the garden with shelter.
The pond had been previously excavated but would not hold significant amounts of water as it had not been sealed.
The client requested a deck area to the front of the house, close to the pond.

The clients wanted to create a wildlife garden which would increase the biodiversity in the area.

The mounds were reshaped to appear more natural and to allow views of the large lawn area to the rear while creating a greater sense of space.

The pond was reshaped and lined. A shelf was created within the pond to allow for the planting of marginal plants.

A timber deck with handrail was located next to the pond and was cantilevered out slightly over the water.

A timber pergola was installed down the side of the house to lead to a gravel garden with patio off the conservatory.

The planting beds were edged, planted and mulched.  The edging and the mulching significantly reduce the maintenance in the garden.

The car parking area to the rear of the house was organised, the back door was framed by planting beds and the bins were hidden by trellis panelling with climbers.
